Northamptonshire's RSPCA team is searching for someone to help them build a legacy and create a new animal welfare centre in the county.

The animal charity announced last week they will be shutting down their combined cattery-and-kennels in Brixworth on November 1.But now, the team says the move is part of a five-year plan to see the charity build a home they can call their own - and they're asking for Northamptonshire's help.

The charity is searching for someone in the county who can donate them the acre of land they need to set out their vision for a new animal welfare centre in Northamptonshire.

Adoption manager Dawn Smith said: "We wouldn't waste any space - we would use every inch of land to help animals.

"Closing the centre has been a lot to process, but it's stepping back to spring forward. After all that's happened with Covid-19 we could do with that silver lining really.

"The dream would be to find somewhere in Northamptonshire we could have on peppercorn rent or for free so we can get to work as soon as possible."

The charity hopes that by closing the centre at the start of November and moving all their animals into foster, they will be free to build their own home without spending any more of the charity's income on leasing or renting.

Now, they are asking for anyone or any organisation who can donate them the land they need to get in touch.

Dawn said: "What we're looking for is what we had at Brixworth - just an acre or so of land for a cattery, kennels and rabbit area.

"Nothing too big - just a small centre. The dream would be one day to have a little vet's suite on site, where people will know us and can drop off donations or visit for adoptions.

"We have a very productive, hard-working team. Now, we just need someone who believes in animals to help us take the next step."
