When we are feeling overwhelmed with all of the pressing issues ongoing in the UK and the rest of the world, it is very easy to overlook some of the lighter feel-good stories that are covered in the news.
This is why we have compiled a round-up of some of the most wholesome and positive stories we shared this month that we hope will bring a smile to your face.
January 2021 saw a great deal of both individuals and groups being presented with 'Rose of Northamptonshire' awards - which recognise those who worked tirelessly as part of the COVID-19 response effort - and residents across the county were able to enjoy a few days of snow, which made for some fun pictures!

1. Northampton psychologist and pet pooch Rocky aiming to run 1,000 miles in 2021 for Cancer Research UK
Dr Helen Fletcher challenged herself to run 1,000 miles in 2021 alongside her ‘hyperactive’ pet pooch, Rocky. She ran 100 miles in three weeks during the first lockdown and managed to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
2. New charity set up by cancer survivor to make and deliver ‘pick me up’ care packages for NHS staff
The charity - Ailsa’s Aim - was set up by Sara Whatley, from Higham Ferrers, who was diagnosed with rare forms of ovarian cancer while pregnant with her now two-year-old daughter, Ailsa. Sara recovered and is now ‘fighting fit’, so wanted to set up a charity with the aim to provide cancer patients with care packages during chemotherapy sessions.
3. Northampton business pledges to give away at least £25K worth of technology to help those who need it during lockdown
Arran Kirton -owner of telecommunications company Guru Technology based in Dallington - will give away technology such as iPads and laptops to children who do not have the necessary equipment to learn from home, and broadband to families who need it.
4. Our readers send in pictures of their funny lockdown haircuts
With barbers and hairdressers closed because of the third UK lockdown, the people of Northamptonshire were forced to either grow out their hair or take matters into their own hands again. The results were... well, have a look for yourself!
