Northamptonshire's Covid-19 death toll now stands at 571 lives lost in just 81 days

Covid-19 is now known to have claimed the lives of at least 571 people in Northamptonshire.
Official figures released yesterday put the total at 447 in the county's two main hospitals, plus another 124 among care home residents.

Hide AdNHS figures say 253 victims had been confirmed to have died after positive coronavirus tests at Northampton General Hospital and another 194 at Kettering General when the latest numbers were collated at 5pm on Monday (June 8).
Front line staff at NGH have seen seven deaths during the most recent seven-day period — the lowest since the end of March when the total number of victims stood at six.
The latest fatality was reported on Friday (June 5), 81 days after the first, a 92-year-old man who passed away on March 3.
Office for National Statistics yesterday revealed five more deaths linked to the deadly bug in Northamptonshire care homes up to last Friday.

Hide AdEight more patients have died while in the care of the Northamptonshire Health Foundation Trust which offers mental health, community nursing, sexual health and physiotherapy services within the county and also at prisons elsewhere. No locations have been confirmed for any of these deaths so they are not be included in the county's totals.
The number of positive coronavirus tests in the county rose to 1,582 when the latest announcement was made on Tuesday (June 9), compared to 1,572 the previous day.
Officials are expecting a rise in the number of confirmed infections in the county after two mobile testing units spent three days each at Northampton and Kettering over the weekend.
Figures are collated at 9am each day and relate to positive lab-confirmed test results.
