Village near Northampton comes together for a social-distancing 80s disco to beat lockdown blues

Hardingstone shows the world how to kick off their Sunday shoes in the lockdown

A village near Northampton hit the streets on Sunday to shake off their quarantine blues with a socia-distancing 80s disco.

Every Sunday at 7pm, Hardingstone village beats the lockdown and comes alive with colour, music and vibrancy by holding a dance party on High Street.

It started out as a one-woman show by organiser Michelle Lewis who one evening decided to stick "Reach" by S Club 7 on her speakers and dance in the street - only to see her neighbours step out to join her.

Now, the spontaneous dance party has grown into a weekly highlight for the village with themes and playlists.

And Sunday night (April 26) saw Hardingstone's residents out in leotards and wigs to get the week's 80s theme in full swing.

Organiser Michelle Lewis said: "When I first gave it a go I was surprised by how many of my neighbours came out to join me.

"It's getting more elaborate. One week I dressed as Hugh Grant and danced to "Jump" like in Love Actually!

"It's just been nice to have people all along the road together with social distancing and everyone having a laugh.

"It's just about forgetting what's going on at the moment for 20 minutes a week. It's just nice to have everyone together".
