An 18-year-old Irthlingborough man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the first day of his murder trial, following the death of a teenager in a Northampton assault.
Back in November, Brayden Phillips, of Park Road in Irthlingborough, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 18-year-old Kyle Ghanie, who died after being punched a number of times in Abington Street near Market Square on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

The court heard from the prosecution that they will be arguing high culpability as Kyle’s death was caused during that act involving the intention of Phillips to cause harm falling just short of grievous bodily harm (GBH). They are arguing that it ought to have been obvious to Phillips that the attack carried a high risk of death or GBH.
Phillips will be sentenced for manslaughter on Friday, March 24.
His Honour Judge David Herbert KC said: “Inevitably, it will be a substantial sentence given the nature of the charge you have admitted to.”

“Though we have had a guilty plea today, no action or words will ever be enough for Kyle’s family, his partner and his friends.
“Every day they still feel his loss with the same pain and grief as they did on that day in August last year.
“My thoughts remain with them and will continue to long after this case has concluded.”
Phillips was, in the meantime, remanded in custody.
