Police sharpshooters find weapons in BMW following dramatic swoop in Northampton sidestreet

Armed police swarmed on a BMW driving through Northampton after a tip-off he was carrying weapons.
Officers discovered a fake firearm and a combat knife after tracking down the vehicle to a Kingsthorpe sidestreet using ANPR cameras at around 3.10pm yesterday afternoon.

Hide AdA Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: " A man has been arrested after an imitation handgun and combat knife were found in a car stopped by firearms officers in Northampton on Saturday afternoon (February 27).
"The man was driving a BMW which was stopped in Lincoln Street, Kingsthorpe, after police received intelligence to suggest a weapon was in the car."
Police say the the man remains in custody following his arrest for being in possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and for being in possession of a bladed article.
